Start your Hopkins evening exploration with a boat ride to the only Afro-Indigenous Cultural Heritage Preservation Island in the World, which is Kalipuna Island located on the north end of Hopkins. Then cruise off into the night with our indigenous fisherman and local guide to be dazzled by stars as you sit back and enjoy a front-row seat to the shimmer of the night on the Freshwater Creek & Commerce Bight Lagoon. The tour departs from Palmento Grove Docking Station at 6:30 p.m. and returns at about 9:00 p.m. Get lucky while cruising the Lagoon and you might just spot Crocodiles while heading to and from our magical location where you will witness a magnificent mystical view of water glowing in the night with every droplet sparkling like stars. Meander through the narrow lagoon channels back to our drop-off point as you soak in the highlights of the adventure.

The second half of this tour involves cruising through a hand-cut path from the river into the mangroves where you can spot resting bats on the sides of the trees and then out into Anderson's Lagoon which boasts bioluminescent plankton that lights up with any disturbance in the water. It is magical to see fish darting away from predators and the boat as you cruise along. The water also glows behind the boat as the prop wash activates the chemical reaction which causes the plankton to light up. This is so interesting and intriguing to visitors that a swim in these waters is almost irresistible so wear your swimwear and bring along a towel. Also, you may want to wear long pants and sleeves or bring a can of insect repellent before and after the tour as there may be biting insects at the dock.

Go through the tiny cut to the lagoon and you are surrounded by the giant mangroves and then shoot out into the lagoon which boasts bioluminescent plankton that lights up with any disturbance in the water.
It’s pitch black, the guide’s flashlight beam cutting across the lagoon is the only light and when he turns it off, the boat picks up speed and the wake glows to blue light. As the boat picks up more speed, the tiny algae, which settle in the lagoon during the dry season, get agitated and glow. It’s absolutely unbelievable.
Our guide will stop the boat and you just stare into the water. Schools of fish or any marine life swimming through the lagoon create a phosphorescent trail that can look like a glowing cloud in the water. Hundreds of jellyfish pulsating in the water. They feed on the algae – it’s all along their edges and inside them.
Just moving your hand around in the water is miraculous. You leave aqua blue glowing blue bubbles.
