Top notch guide
Our guide was born and raised in Belize and was incredibly knowledgeable. He was witty as hell and knew everything that one would expect a guide to know, and a wholleeeeee lot more! His English was top notch. He also spoke Mayan and at least two other languages. As he drove us through the reserve in a very comfortable can with AC, he talked to us about the ancient Mayans and how they used all the ... more resources the land naturally offers. He talked to us about the medicinal properties each plant, animal, and bug had. He really enriched our lives with the culture, even for just a day. We tasted termites, berries, local water from the waterfall. He explained how ancient Mayans used ants to seal wounds. He showed us which tree leaves they used to craft carrying bags. We rafted down the river in the preserve, admiring the beauty the whole way. We hiked through the jungle. It was around 30 minutes of moderate hiking with reasonable elevation gain in some areas. Wear appropriate shoes (no flip flops.). Plenty of places to rest if you're not fit. We enjoyed the cocoa farm tour and would absolutely recommend the addition. Between the preserve and the cocoa farm, it was an entire day. 8am to 3pm and we loved every moment of it.
