About Location
The Mopan River runs from the Peten Department of Guatemala to Branch Mouth, Cayo District, Belize. At Branch Mouth it merges with the Macal River to form what is called the Belize River.

The Mopan River is an important source of drinking water in Belize and is also one of the best rivers to enjoy water sports including swimming, tubing, canoeing, fishing, etc.

A trip to Xunantunich takes visitors across the Mopan River before the hike (or drive) up the hill to the main plaza of the ruins.
